Knot, In Reverse
—poetry by Dustin Orin Talley

The sailor knows how to make a boat stay,
how to let it sway in the wake,
And when looking for models in my life
I picture the sailor's hands,
hard and full of grace.
The turning of the rope,
the training of it.
The tautness.
The result.
And then I reverse it, to learn it
at the beginning of every day.

Dustin Orin Talley lives with his family in Durham, NC.
